About Fontanafredda
Fontanafredda began as a love story in 1858 when the first king of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele, purchased the Fontanafredda estate in Piemonte for his love, Rosa Vercellana. By 1870, the estate had begun producing Barolo, with its first transatlantic export in 1886. Over the last century, Fontanafredda’s reputation for pioneering Barolo and viticulture in Piemonte has only grown.

Fontanafredda “La Rosa” Barolo 1996 Tasting Notes:
“A Barolo of days gone by, long and well-structured on the mouth. A harvest delayed by an unusually cold spring and summer produced a wine with explosive tannic structure and lasting crisp freshness”
Fontanafredda “La Rosa” Barolo 2013 Tasting Notes:
“A vintage characterized by an irregular beginning of the vegetative cycle due to low average temperatures and lots of abundant rain in May…Nebbiolo enjoyed high temperatures in September and October, which helped to develop the concentration of its characteristic phenolic compounds. A great wine, fine and elegant, with great potential for aging. A rare example of a classic Barolo”
Fontanafredda “La Rosa” Barolo 2016 Tasting Notes:
“One of the best vintages in the last 10 years…the Nebbiolo grapes achieved a perfect and full ripening, despite the mild winter and late cold that arrived in spring. The wine has excellent balance, big bouquets, and great structure”
