Emilia-Romagna

A food lover’s paradise, the Emilia-Romagna region is truly the capital of Italy's food scene. An often cited article in Forbes called it "Italy's Greatest Gastronomic Treasure," and we agree!

Some of the most beloved ingredients found in Italian cuisine originated, and are still produced in, this area, including balsamic vinegar, mortadella, prosciutto, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese and a variety of handmade pastas. For centuries, food and wine lovers have been coming to raise, harvest and experience these authentic regional specialties.

Emilia-Romagna meals layer flavors, with pastas that range from tagliatelle and tortelli to tagliolini and lasagna. Antipasto is celebrated before the first course of a traditional meal and may feature anything from figs with prosciutto and balsamic vinegar to pears with Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. Fresh and seasonal vegetables, like grilled asparagus, sautéed greens, and roasted squash play a major role in side dishes. Exceptional and sought after wine also comes from the area's crops of Lambrusco, Sangiovese, Trebbiano, and Albana grapes that grow there.

At la Spiga, we strive to serve the highest quality, most authentic foods and flavors from this tasty region. Salute!
